Raleigh, N.C. – August 24, 2015 – Able&Co., a strategic marketing agency headquartered in Raleigh, NC, recently hosted a two-week food and donation drive to benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina’s Stop Summer Hunger campaign. The monetary donations collected by Able&Co. will provide 5,880 meals to those in need, and 270 pounds of food were collected, the equivalent of 227 meals.
Stop Summer Hunger is the annual food and funds drive that serves the nearly 300,000 children in 34 North Carolina counties that rely on the free and reduced-cost meals at school to get them through the day. The program provides additional food to feed these children and their families during this season of increased need.
Able&Co. accepted monetary gifts to the Food Bank and set up collection centers in their offices to hold food donations. The agency also distributed flyers and sent out invitations to encourage their clients and vendors to participate.
The August 7th finale of the campaign, an Open House at Able&Co.’s offices in Raleigh, featured heavy hors d’oeuvres and desserts provided by Julie’s Cakery as well as a craft beer tasting. Approximately 50 guests attended.
“Giving back to our community is very important to us at Able&Co., and I am so proud of everyone that participated in our campaign to benefit the Food Bank. It’s another example of how people in the Triangle enthusiastically donate their time and resources to improve the lives of their neighbors,” said Jenny Taylor, founder and owner of Able&Co.
Established in 1980, the Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that has provided food for people at risk of hunger in 34 counties for 30 years. It serves a network of more than 800 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and programs for children and adults through distribution centers in Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, the Sandhills (Southern Pines) and Wilmington.
Food insecurity remains a serious problem in central and eastern North Carolina. In these counties, more than 651,000 people struggle to access nutritious and adequate amounts of food necessary for a healthy life.
